Inspiring Spires

The natural eroding formations at Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument not only make for an interesting family outing, but they also have served as backdrop for such movies as Silverado (1985), Young Guns II (1990), Earth 2 (1994), and Troublemakers (1994). President Bill Clinton declared Kasha-Katuwe, which means “white cliffs” in the native Keresan tongue of Cochiti Pueblo, a national monument on January 17, 1991. It is located off I-25 in the Jémez Mountains near Cochiti Pueblo and the Río Grande between Santa Fe and Albuquerque. For info: (505) 761-8700; www.blm.gov or www.publiclands.org
